Blasting around the galaxy and seizing artifacts of long forgotten planets is not what the new recruits had in mind when they signed up for an intersolar delivery job. Steady pay, some work experience, sure -- but battling sha assassins and overthrowing outer rim tyrants was not in the job description. Luckily, the captain just recruited a new secret weapon, a young boy named William. The boy may not be very tall or strong but he makes up for it with a fantastic eyesight. Uncontrolled visions of flickering lights brush past the boy’s eyes warning him of upcoming dangers. So, if the inductees aboard the M.E.S. Stardust hope to get home with a paycheck -- and all their limbs intact -- then they have no choice but to follow Captain’s orders and a boy’s wild visions in the starlight.

This was an absolutely great read! I started this book a couple of weeks ago and took it with me on vacation. I was honestly surprised how engaged I was throughout the entire story. There was not one part where I felt bored or didn't feel like reading any more. Although the book is a little lower than my normal reading level (I am 28 and I read A LOT), the story was so fun to read that I really didn't mind. It's definitely a story for all ages, kind of the way the Harry Potter books are technically for children but adults love reading them as well. With that said, I highly recommend this book for adolescents, especially anyone who has trouble 'getting into reading'.

As a very quick summary: This book is a sci-if novel about a young kid (orphan) who who joins up a crew in space as a job and ends up having really amazing adventures. The characters all have different skills and powers which you learn about as the story progresses.

Note: Amazon's review process only has a box for 'No Violence', 'Some Violence', or 'Graphic Violence'. While this book technically had fight scenes, it was not descriptive enough in any way to be inappropriate for kids.

MES Stardust AJ Padilla Natalie Meredith Books Reviews

I really enjoyed this book. It's very imaginative and set up like x-files where every chapter is a mini-story about different planets the characters visit. The Bull and I was my favorite chapter because it took place on a planet that has a lot of animals and one of the characters reminded me of Steve Irwin. It's perfect for young adult readers but anyone who enjoys sci-fi/fantasy will like it.
This is a great debut novel! The characters are fun and believable. I like how the character’s ages range from kid- young adult so, the story appeals to a wide audience. A lot of creative planets, creatures, and vocabulary to explore on every page. The prologue starts out slow but, the story line really picks up in Chapter 1.
Great characters and very imaginative.
This is hands down one of my favorite books of all time. The story line is amazing and the characters jump to life. I would recommend this book to anyone. Also I think this would make a great movie or TV show. I cant wait to read more by AJ Padilla.
It took me over a year to re-find this book, but now that I read it, I am glad that I did. Exploring the galaxy is a dream of many and the author paints vivid pictures of many planets and their inhabitants--and I'm not talking just people. For me, the first half of the book was a bit slow, but world (galaxy) building always takes a fair amount of vocabulary to pain those nice pictures and gather & describe the main players. There were some fairly tame adventures (jobs on planets) in the first half of the book, but the second half had them getting into a fair amount of tight spots that took teamwork to get them out, which shows off each member's skills. A couple of the scenarios were a little far out there (for me), but still hung on the edge of believable. Their last leg home was quite interesting, too, being rescued by the 'emperor of the sun'.

One thing I did not understand is no one took any photos or videos. Here's a crew that's planet hopping around the galaxy and no one is recording any of the places, things, events. I know when I go on a trip, a camera is high on my list.

I gave it 4 stars because of punctuation and grammar; the author need to learn how & when to use a semicolon instead of just a lot of commas. There were a few misspelled words (of, off) and a couple of instances of wrong tense (ran, run). None of these hurt the story except in needing to stop for a moment to figure out the correct word for the particular scenario it was describing. If using Microsoft Word, it's grammar checker can catch many of these.
I, for one, would definitely like to read more adventures about the MES Stardust crew, especially to learn how William is growing as a Seer.
